Mr. Powell has lectured extensively on the subject of Black Military History for over twenty years at institutions such as: Yale University; San Jose State University; Vincennes University; California State University at Davis; Slippery Rock University; Arizona State University; University of Northern Arizona; Fisk University; Jackson State University; Howard University; Texas Southern University; Santa Clara University; Mesa Community College; Phoenix City College; The Tempe Union School District; Trenton School District; San Jose, James Lick High School. Other lectures, held at predominant institutions, include: the US Department of Energy, Agriculture, & Interior; the US Department of the Navy; Naval Station Treasure Island; the US Department Army Presidio of San Francisco; Walter Reed Army Medical Center Washington D.C. Mr. Powell has been affiliated with: the Company of Military Historians; The Afro-American Association for the Study of Life and History; the American Association for State and Local History; the NAACP; the Buffalo Soldiers Historical Society; the American Association of Museums; the University Club of Alameda County. Powell has done historical consulting for the late author - historian, Alex Haley, and for the National Institute for the study of Race in the Military. Powell has also written on the subject of Black Military History for publications such as: Black Heritage Magazine; Military Affairs; the American Military Institute; the Buffalo Soldiers Historical Society; the Gilcrease Museum. |
