RESPECT

Lonnie G. Bunch III, former curator of the California Afro-American Museum, and now with the Smithsonian Institution, Washington D.C., had this to say about Mr. Powell, "Now that the sound and fury of the exhibition installation and opening has subsided, I want to convey my heartfelt thanks for all your help and support. This exhibition was testimony to your vision, your scholarly inquiry and your perseverance."  Margaret S. Vining of the Smithsonian Institution had this to say, “On behalf of the Museum of American History, I would like to thank you again for allowing us to use your negatives for illustrations in the “Buffalo Soldier” exhibition... The prints are an invaluable part of the exhibit... “The Buffalo Soldiers” has received good reviews and we are hoping to get enough support to move the exhibition into a permanent case in the Armed Forces Hall next Fall.”  In 1982, Retired Air Force Major General Dan Calahan said, "I have known and have been associated with Tony Powell for the last four to five years in regard to his writing and exhibits dealing with Black Military History and he is, of course, an expert in this field... He certainly can perform historical research and report on subjects in other fields. I say this because he is highly intelligent, and expresses himself well.  In my contacts with him, I have found him to be honest, forthright, and cooperative." Retired Colonel F.Whitney Hall, Jr. former Post commander of the Presidio of San Francisco, and now President of the Fort Point Historical Association, had this to say about Mr Powell in 1980, "The Presidio Army Museum was able to stage our exhibit on the history of the Black American Soldier largely through donated time and the loan of photographs by Mr. Anthony Powell. His historical knowledge and his sensitive understanding of both black military history and the reactions of audiences who view the displays have been essential to the exhibit's success. I recommend Mr. Anthony Powell as an expert, sensitive and conscientious student of the Black American Soldier."  Military Collector Tom Thorn, say's "First, let me thank you for sharing with me your very capable efforts in compiling and writing the most interesting history of America's Black Warriors that I have ever read.  Your research concerning the Army's four regular army black regiments was absolutely superb."
